Overview

We will visit together the ancient English Cemetery of Florence, walking among the tombstones and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of such a beautiful and charming cemetery.
I will tell you the history of this place and the stories of some of the amazing people buried here: poets and writers, scientists and pastors, artists and adventurers. The tombs will tell us about the many different communities of foreigners in Florence during the XIX century. Not just english people, but expats from 16 different countries who lived and died in Florence, included some celebrities like the British poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
We will also talk about cemetery symbolism and iconography.
